Guest Lecture - Gender Sensitivity
Ms. Vidulata Gawade, Director, Vivant Holistic Skill Development Centre
The Institute organized a guest lecture on the topic – ‘Gender Sensitivity’ on 24 th September
2019. It was conducted by Ms. Vidulata Gawade, Director, Vivant Holistic Skill Development
Centre. She is also empaneled as a Professional Mediator.
Gender sensitivity is a very relevant issue and it prevails in many countries including India.
Despite all progress in art, literature, governance and science & technology, we have not been able to remove the gender discrimination. Men still dominate over women. Gender inequality fuels violence against women and results in power imbalances.
She enlightened the audience on hierarchical social division prevalent in our society. She
emphasized that this discrimination is not based on biology but on social expectations and
stereotypes. She highlighted the sexual division of labour existing in Indian society through real life examples. She also conducted ‘Role Plays’ to bring out the preconceived notions, and gave suggestions to address them.
All in all it was a very enlightening session.
